The Ward - Jordana Frankel *Genre* YA Dystopian*Rating* 4.0*My Thoughts*The Ward is a pretty amazing and well written story. It has intense action as well as suspense and a very likable main character in 16 year old Renata Dane. Ren is also known as the Red Rider because of her racing antics and the fact that she almost never loses while she is searching for sources of Freshwater in the different underwater quadrants of NYC. Renata is the real deal folks. She races hard, she loves hard, and she fights for what she believes in just as hard. I must also give a shout-out to Aven Colatura who was absolutely the darling of this story and I can't wait to find out what Frankel does next in regards to her cliffhanger situation. I will be absolutely shocked if ANYONE doesn't find Aven to be sweet, innocent, and lovable even with all her suffering. In many ways, this book had me enthralled because I know the setting of this book. If you live with Manhattan or any of the boroughs you will know the setting as well. I liked the racing sequences and the danger that each race entails. I liked the little chip shot towards Upstate New York and their battles with the City over water distribution or the lack thereof. I think I preferred Callum Pace over Derek even though Ren made it totally obvious she was into Derek. Callum put his entire life on the line in an effort to help Ren and find the cure for the HBNC virus that has decimated NYC's population. Derek, on the other hand, did everything he possibly could to prevent Ren from doing her job and saving her "sister" Aven. Yes, folks I am absolutely ready for the sequel and hope it's as good or better than The Ward! *Recvd via Edelweiss on 02/15/2013* Expected publication: April 30th 2013 by Katherine Tegen Books
