Reboot - Amy Tintera *Genre* YA Dystopian*Rating* 3-3.5*My Thoughts*Reboot is Amy Tintera's debut novel which I eagerly jumped at when I saw it appeared on one of Epic Reads Tea Time ARC reveal parties and later appeared on Edelweiss. It is the story about kids who have experienced life ending events, and have come back to life, or been Rebooted as soldiers. It is the story about how a population that was wiped out by the KDH virus, somehow managed to survive despite the odds and live within the Republic of Texas. It is also the story of 17 year old Wren Connolly who is known as 178 by the HVAC (Human Advancement and Repopulation Corporation) because that is how long it took her to come back to life after being shot 3 times and dying. She's faster, stronger, less emotional, and able to quickly heal compared to her counter parts. Supposedly, there is no humanity left within her. Wren isn't a complicated character to write about. Yes, she's cold and emotionless, but she's also fierce and determined and wants to make sure those she trains survive. But, she's also a character that you won't find overly dark, angst-y, or involved in 3 way love trysts with several guys at once. When 17 year old Callum Reyes comes along, Wren's long forgotten human emotions appear not to be dead after all. Callum known as 22 is still pretty much a human being compared to the rest of the HVAC soldiers or robots. He questions everything, he gets in deep kimchee, and somehow catches the eye of the deadliest Reboot alive today; Wren who decides to take a chance and train him. When Wren is told to put him down, she and Wren find a way to escape. Callum’s attachment to Wren causes her to rethink what it actually means to be human. I don’t think the plot is necessarily predictable, but it does leave you wondering what Tintera has up her sleeve for the sequel. It is also dark, and bloody, and that didn’t turn me off once which makes me wonder if I’ve become too desensitized to violence in novels and TV. The entire concept behind Rebooting is interesting and what made me request this book in the first place. I wish there was less romance involved and more action and suspense but this is a YA suggested novel, and therefore it’s pretty much a given that it will be included in the storyline.*Recvd via Edelweiss 02/27/2013* Expected publication: May 7th 2013 by HarperTeen
