Love Me to Death (Lucy Kincaid Series #1)

Love Me to Death - Allison Brennan This is the first book in the Lucy Kincaid series, and my first novel read by this author. If this is any indication of her writing, then, I'll definitely be looking forward to more of her works, including Kiss Me, Kill Me, which is book #2. This story has a combination of mystery, thriller, and yes, romance between two of the main characters.*Plot/Storyline* The story surrounds the struggles and courage of Lucia (Lucy) Kincaid, who, not only graduated from college with a double major in psychology and computer science, but has also interned for US Senator Jonathan Patton, as well as spending time with the County Sheriff’s Department, and the D.C. Medical Examiner’s Office all in an effort to impress the FBI's hiring board. But, her main job is helping hunt down sexual predators who fall out of the system as a volunteer for Women and Children First! (WCF), a job she is uniquely qualified to handle.Lucy knows all too well about how this feels as six years ago she was abducted by a sexual predator named Adam Scott, who she met online and was brutally tortured and assaulted, all broadcast live on the internet. She survived her ordeal and emerged with a single goal: join the FBI and fight the kind of crime she fell prey to. Her ultimate revenge was killing her attacker, and helping put away his partner Roger Morton.I've read somewhere along the way, that Lucy was a minor character in the books Speak No Evil and Fear No Evil, which I haven't yet read. Lucy, to me, is a very strong, driven young woman on the cusp of a fulfilling her ulitmate goal of working for the the FBI. Yes, she does some silly things, but then again she risks her life to save another. As a survivor myself, I can totally relate to how Lucy is feeling and what drives her to do the things she does. Love Me To Death actually has a two part plot. Vigilante murders done by those who should know bettter, but felt that the system was letting too many pedophiles and rapists out into the world to do their nasty deed once again. Then there's Lucy’s stalker who wants to pay her back for trying to return him to jail while working for WCF. The main villain, is known as “Teacher,” is extremely creepy and the descriptions of his activities are quite disturbing. He doesn't believe women are human, and calls them female to belittle and discourage them from fighting back.Lucy becomes entralled by Sean Rogan, who is her brother Patrick's partner and a security specialist. Lucy and Sean's tango was definitely the highlight of the book itself, although I was glad to see that the Teacher was taught a nice lesson in the process. Love Me To Death focuses on a very real and very terrifying epidemic - online predators and sex offenders and it sometimes makes the FBI out to look like utter incompetants. The next book in the Lucy Kincaid series, a novella entitled Love is Murder, will be available in e-book format on January 24, 2011. The next full length book in the series, Kiss Me, Kill Me, will be released on February 22, 2011.
