*Rating* 3.5*Genre* Science Fiction*Review*Trance is the first book in a new series by the author of the Dreg City series. It follows the life of Teresa "Trance" Wells and the remaining survivors of the Meta Wars (Between the Meta’s and Banes) that ended 15 years ago with all Metas, or superhero like individuals, losing their powers. The survivors, who were all children or teenagers when they lost their powers, were separated by the government and put into different homes. They each lead separate lives which weren't really anything to write home about. Trance pretty much can't hold down a job without getting fired as we find out upon meeting her. Then, suddenly out of nowhere, Trance and the other survivors remarkably get their powers back and then they are hunted down by a mysterious foe and killed. Trance gets totally different powers from those that were taken away from her. This pretty much makes her the most powerful Meta around. Because of this fact, she ends up being put in a leadership role, and then struggles mightily with the decisions on how best to save her friends, and take down the person responsible for her friends deaths. This is a very interesting first story in the series, and I'll be interested to see where it goes from here. It is really set in what almost is a post-apocalyptic world since most of the major cities were evacuated after the Meta Wars, and nobody returned. You can call this a knock off of the X-Men if you like. Me, I’ll wait to see what happens in the next installment. Kelly MedingMetaWars1. Trance (October 25, 2011) 2. Changeling (June 26, 2012)
