I, Sniper: A Bob Lee Swagger Novel (Bob Lee Swagger Novels) - Stephen Hunter The story begins with the sniper killing of several people, all of whom were part of the anti-Vietnam War movement. The investigation leads authorities to believe that the sniper is a former USMC sniper, Carl Hitchcock. Hitchcock was a decorated sniper during the Vietnam War and is believed to be trying to eliminate those that were opposed to the war. Hitchcock is found dead from an apparent suicide. Nick Memphis, an FBI special agent, feels that all the pieces fit to perfectly and asks Bob Lee Swagger to look into the suicide. He feels that Bob Lee will see it from a different perspective being that he was a former sniper himself. Bob Lee finds that there is a lot more to these murders than was first realized. The first person murdered was Joan Flanders, a movie actress who was an anti-war activist and found some fame by posing on an enemy anti-aircraft gun. Joan Flanders - Jane Fonda???? Joan was married to a very wealthy man by the name of T.T. Constable. T.T. made his money in advertising and owns the largest land area in the United States, and he is raising Buffalo for it's lean meat. T.T. - Ted Turner???? Bob Lee finds that he not only must contend with the FBI, but also deal with 3 men that have been hired to keep Bob Lee from vital information regarding the case. These men are armed to the teeth with the most modern weapons and have been snipers themselves. So have sniper againist snipers. Bob Lee begins a cat and mouse game that finds him having them thinking they are hunting Bob - when in fact Bob is hunting them. There is action throughout the book with some amazing sniper information. The show down between the good guys and bad guys is excellent, especially in the last stand off that recreates a good old fashioned western shoot out.(less)
